The beginning

It started with an idea. At 11 years old.

Long before Firestarter existed, Andrew was already discovering what it meant to turn an idea into something real.

You don't need to have everything figured out. Sometimes, you just need the confidence to begin.

Andrew Bishop started his first business when he was just 11. That early experience became the beginning of a lifetime spent creating, building, acquiring, growing, funding, selling and advising businesses.

Over more than five decades, his work has crossed manufacturing, international trade, technology, audio, media, retail and sustainability. He has worked with businesses at different stages of their journeys, from early ideas and ambitious growth plans to difficult turnarounds and successful exits.

His experience has never been limited to strategy on paper. Andrew's work has involved real commercial decisions: developing products, building supply chains, opening international markets, strengthening operations and finding practical ways to make businesses work better.

One business grew from £250,000 in sales to £14 million over six years. Another was acquired for £1 while loss-making and rebuilt into a sustainably profitable business with £4.6 million in turnover.

Those experiences helped shape how Andrew approaches business today. He understands that behind every company are people making difficult decisions, taking risks and trying to turn their ideas into something that lasts.

And he knows that the right person, conversation or opportunity can make a meaningful difference to what happens next.

The reason behind it all

Experience means more when you pass it on.

Andrew and Victoria Bishop founded Firestarter Foundation around a belief that has grown from Andrew's own entrepreneurial journey: people should not have to wait until adulthood to discover their ability to create something of their own.

They believe tomorrow's entrepreneurs are sitting in classrooms today. Young people already have interests, skills, imagination and ideas. What they may lack is the opportunity to explore those ideas, the confidence to take a first step or access to someone who can help them work out what comes next.

Their vision is to make entrepreneurial thinking part of education from Year 7 — not simply as a lesson in writing a business plan, but as a way to help young people recognise problems worth solving, discover what they care about and understand the possibilities available to them.

For Andrew, Firestarter is about putting experience to work for others and creating a community where support does not stop at encouragement. It continues when someone is ready to act.

“

We don't just want people to dream about starting something. We want them to feel able to have a go — and know that support is there when they do.

Andrew & Victoria's Firestarter vision
Find your Ikigai

Find what makes you tick.

Firestarter encourages people to explore the intersection between what they love, what they are good at and the problems they could solve. You don't have to know exactly where it will lead. You need the chance to explore what's possible.

01 / PASSION What do you care about?
02 / STRENGTH What are you good at?
03 / OPPORTUNITY What problem could you solve?
A community behind the founder

No one has to build alone.

Andrew knows that no founder can be an expert in everything. Building a business can mean navigating sales, marketing, finance, legal questions, technology, branding and funding — often all at once.

That's why Firestarter brings together a network of more than 150 specialist mentors, known as Wizards. Their collective expertise helps founders find relevant guidance, make connections and work through the challenges involved in developing a business.

The idea is not to tell every founder what to do. It is to help each person find the knowledge and support they need to make their own next move.
